Water shortages during the dry season and limited availability of fertile land are the main challenges in vegetable production activities, especially pak choi (Brassica rapa L. subsp. chinensis) which has high economic value, so innovations in irrigation systems and planting media are needed. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficiency of water storage and the yield of pak choi (Brassica rapa L. subsp. chinensis) vegetables in a mixture of Ultisol and rice husk charcoal planting media irrigated using a subsurface drip irrigation system. The study was conducted from February 2025 to Mei 2025, at the Plant House of the Agricultural Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The experimental method used a Randomized Block Design (RAK) pattern with the treatment of rice husk charcoal and Ultisol composition (% v/v) consisting of five treatment levels and each repeated three times. The treatment levels tested were: P1 (100% Ultisol without rice husk charcoal), P2 (75% Ultisol: 25% rice husk charcoal), P3 (50% Ultisol: 50% rice husk charcoal), P4 (25% Ultisol: 75% rice husk charcoal), and P5 (100% rice husk charcoal). The conclusion of the results of this study include the composition of the planting medium affects the efficiency of water storage. Planting media with a composition of 100% rice husk charcoal without Ultisol (P5) produced the highest water storage efficiency, but the highest fresh weight of Pakchoy plants was produced in the planting medium with a composition of 25% rice husk charcoal and 75% Ultisol (P2), and the lowest in the P5 treatment. The results of this study indicate that the composition of rice husk charcoal needs to be limited, although it has a positive effect on storage efficiency.
