This study aims to analyze the influence of local government characteristics and accountability on the performance of local governments in Jambi Province. The examined variables of local government characteristics include the size of the region, regional wealth level, dependency on the central government, and capital expenditure. The data used are secondary data from 11 regencies/municipalities in Jambi Province for the period 2020–2023. The analysis technique employed is panel data regression using a fixed effect model approach with the E-Views version 12 software. The results show that regional size and wealth level do not have a significant effect on local government performance. However, dependency on the central government, capital expenditure, and accountability have a positive and significant effect on local government performance. These findings imply that improving local government performance in Jambi Province can be driven by enhancing accountability, increasing capital expenditure, and optimizing dependency on the central government.
