Microplastic pollution is one of the global issues that contaminates both terrestrial and aquatic environments. Microplastics have the potential to be harmful if they enter the bodies of living organisms. This study aims to identify the color, shape, and polymer types of microplastics to determine their distribution and abundance in the Komering River. The Komering River was chosen as the research object due to the high level of activity in the river, especially waste disposal activities. The microplastic water sampling method used in this study is purposive sampling. The preparation of microplastic water samples included homogenizing 250 ml of water, separating it with a tiered sieve, adding 30% NaCl for density separation, and digesting it with 30% H2O2 and 0,05 M Fe2SO4 to separate plastic particles from other organic particles. The samples were then filtered using Whatman filter paper No. 42. The filtered samples were visualized under an inverted microscope to determine the color and shape of the microplastics. The microplastic shapes found in the Komering River water included fragments, films, fibers, and pellets. The colors observed were brown, green, red, blue, white, and black. The abundance of microplastics obtained at the sampling stations was as follows: Batang Hari Buntu (380 particles/m³), Srinanti (282 particles/m³), Tanjung Nior (495 particles/m³), Kayu Agung (133 particles/m³), Teloko (257 particles/m³), Batun (767 particles/m³), Jejawi (644 particles/m³), SP Padang (1,190 particles/m³), Sungai 2 (435 particles/m³), and Tanjung Ali (165 particles/m³). The samples were further characterized using FTIR analysis to identify the polymer types of the microplastics, which included Polyethelene terepthalate (PETE), High-density polyyethelene (HDPE), Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), Low-density polythylene (LDPE), Polypropylene (PP), Polystyrene (PS), Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), Cellulose acetate (CA), Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), Latex, Nitrile, Nylon, Polycarbonate (PC), Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), Polytrafluoroethylene (PTFE), dan Poluyrethane (PU). The measurement of river quality parameters on microplastic distribution includes clarity, temperature, TSS, TDS, curent velocity, depth, dissolved oxygen, total phosphate, ammonia, and pH, using the correlation method with a scatter diagram, R2 coefficient, and (r). Temperature and current velocity tend influence the distribution of microlastic.
