KUALITAS FISIK SILASE RUMPUT RAJA (Pennisetum purpuphoides) YANG DIKOMBINASIKAN DENGAN LAMTORO (Leucaena leucocephala)
The ruminant population increases every year, this must be balanced with the availability of superior forage. Many factors affect the low availability of forage including land conversion. The form of effort that can be done is planting superior forage, such as king grass and lamtoro. The use of both forages is very limited because during the rainy season forage production increases, but decreases in the dry season. Silage technology is needed to overcome these problems. The process of making silage could be used MOSI (Modified Silo) technology. This research aimed was to study the effect of lamtoro combination on the physical quality of grass silage. This research was conducted from October to December 2024 at the Experimental Stables of the Department of Animal Husbandry Technology and Industry and continued at the Animal Nutrition and Food Laboratory, Department of Technology and Industry, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research was used completely randomized design (CRD) including 4 treatments and 3 replicates with P0 (100% King Grass); P1 (60% King Grass: 40% Lamtoro); P2 (70% King Grass: 30% Lamtoro) and P3 (80% King Grass: 20% Lamtoro). Parameters observed were aroma, texture, color and pH (degree of acidity). Data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results of this study showed that treatment P1 (60% King Grass : 40% Lamtoro) produced a low pH value of 4.90 with a color value dominated by the highest percentage of brownish green color was 58.33%, had a slightly sour aroma percentage of 45.83%, and produced a slightly soft texture with a value of 43.75%. Based on the results obtained from this study, it could be concluded that treatment P1 (60% King Grass : 40% Lamtoro) produces the best result of aroma, texture, color and pH of silage compared to other treatments.
