ANALISIS PEMILIHAN MODA ANTARA MOBIL PRIBADI DENGAN ANGKUTAN SUNGAI PADA KAWASAN PINGGIRAN KOTA PALEMBANG
The increasing severity of traffic congestion in central Palembang is largely attributed to the excessive use of private vehicles, compounded by the concentration of urban infrastructure and public facilities within the city center. This has led to soaring land and housing prices in the area. In response, the local government has proposed the development of a satellite city in Semuntul, a peripheral and currently underutilized region. As part of this initiative, civil servants (PNS) are planned to be relocated to act as early settlers and contribute to the initial urban growth of the area. To facilitate commuting from Semuntul to the city center, river-based public transportation is proposed as an alternative to private car usage. This study aims to (1) identify the sociodemographic and travel characteristics of potential users, (2) examine the factors influencing mode choice, and (3) develop a mode choice model to estimate the probability of river transport adoption. A quantitative approach was employed using a stated preference survey distributed to 100 civil servants in Palembang. The findings indicate that 53% of respondents are opposed to the development of the new area, 53% are not in favor of introducing river transport, and 56% are unwilling to relocate to Semuntul. The results of the binary logit model reveal that 42% of respondents would opt for river transport, whereas 52% would continue to prefer using private vehicles.
