Goats are a type of livestock that have great potential for development. Lempuing District has the highest goat population in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, with a total 6,195 in 2019. Goat farming in Lempuing District has been carried out for generations, with the maintenance system evolving from extensive to intensive. The management of goat farming is related to the characteristics of the farmers. Goat development can be analyzed using the Location Quotient (LQ). The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between farmers' characteristics (age, education level, farmers' experience) on the number of goat ownership, management practices (husbandry systems and types of feed), and to calculate the potential goat population using Location Quotient (LQ) in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency. This study was conducted from December 2024 to January 2025. This research employed a survey method with purposive sampling. The sample used in this study is goat livestock in Bumi Agung, Tugu Jaya, Tugu Mulyo Village, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The data obtained is processed and tabulated to derive the percentage and average age, level of education, farming experience, livestock ownership, maintenance system, type of feed, and the Location Quotient (LQ) value, which is calculated using arithmetic. The data is presented descriptively. The calculation of the goat livestock population is conducted using Location Quotient (LQ) analysis. The observed variables in this study are the age of farmers, level of education, farming experience, livestock ownership, and the Location Quotient (LQ) value. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that farmers in Lempuing District are of productive age with education predominantly at the junior high school level (42.22%). The experience that goat farmers have is still lacking, with less than 3 years of experience. Age, education level, and duration of farming are not related to the level of asset ownership because there are many other factors, such as the availability of feed and capital. The farming system carried out in Lempuing District is mostly intensive, with the majority of the feed being wild grass. The Location Quotient (LQ) analysis of the goat population in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency shows that 11 sub-districts are part of the base sector and 7 sub-districts are part of the non-base sector.
