PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL TANAMAN SELADA (Lactuca sativa L.) KOMPOSISI MEDIA TANAM DAN JUMLAH SUMBU BERBEDA PADA TEKNIK BUDIDAYA TERAPUNG
South Sumatra has excellent potential for agricultural development, but is often hampered by the unique conditions of swamps land. Lettuce has high economic value with growing market demand. Innovations in efficient and sustainable cultivation techniques are urgently needed to meet this demand. Floating lettuce cultivation can be an alternative way when land is flooded. This study was conducted to determine the composition of planting media and the number of wicks that are effective in increasing the growth of lettuce plants in floating crop cultivation systems in swamps land. This research was conducted in the swamp land of Sriwijaya University using the factorial group randomized design method. Media composition as the first factor included M1 (soil), M2 (soil + cow manure + sand) 2:1:1, and M3 (soil + cow manure + husk charcoal) 2:1:1. The second factor is the use of the number of wicks including two wicks (S2), three wicks (S3), and four wicks (S4). Based on the results of the study, M2 planting media (composition of soil, cow manure, and sand in a ratio of 2:1:1) gave the best growth in lettuce plants compared to other planting media. In addition, the use of three wicks in the floating cultivation system has proven to be quite effective in supporting plant growth. The most optimal results were obtained in the combination of M2 treatment with four wicks (M2:S4), which showed a positive interaction between the composition of planting media and the number of wicks in increasing lettuce growth.
