PERENCANAAN DAN PERANCANGAN PUSAT EDUKASI SONGKET DI PALEMBANG
Palembang Songket is an intangible cultural heritage of Indonesia that holds high historical and aesthetic value. Since the era of the Sriwijaya Kingdom, this woven fabric has symbolized the pride of South Sumatra's people. Its complex production process, which incorporates gold or silver threads, makes songket a culturally rich and symbolically meaningful textile. Today, songket is not only used in traditional ceremonies but has also evolved into the modern fashion industry through innovations in patterns and materials. Despite its potential, efforts to preserve songket in Palembang remain fragmented and unintegrated. With over 100 songket-related MSMEs in the region, there is a clear need for a dedicated and integrated facility. Therefore, a songket education and recreation center is proposed, aiming to showcase the production process while offering an engaging learning experience. Designed using a metaphorical architectural approach, the center is expected to become a medium for cultural preservation, public education, and local economic empowerment, while strengthening Palembang's cultural identity in the face of globalization.
