PERKEMBANGAN TRADISI PEMBUATAN KAIN TENUN SONGKET DI PALEMBANG TAHUN 1998-2023
This study examines the development of the Palembang songket weaving tradition from 1998 to 2023, focusing on motif changes, production challenges, and the role of the creative industry in its preservation. The research employs a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with artisans, business owners, and industry stakeholders, along with an analysis of relevant literature. The findings reveal that Palembang songket has undergone significant transformation, evolving from small-scale household production to an organized craft industry in centers such as Kelurahan 13 Ulu and 30 Ilir. Traditional motifs like Pucuk Rebung and Naga Besaung persist but are often modified or combined with modern designs to align with market trends. Key challenges include fluctuating raw material prices, weather dependency, and limited government support. However, social media plays a crucial role in expanding market reach. The creative industry also drives product innovation, though the sustainability of songket as a cultural heritage requires stronger collaboration between the government, artisans, and communities. The study concludes that preserving songket demands a holistic approach, including documentation of classic motifs, training for artisan regeneration, and digital marketing strategies. Further research is recommended to explore the impact of modern production technologies on the quality and cultural value of songket. Keywords: Palembang songket, traditional motifs, creative industry, cultural preservation, traditional weaving.
