OPTIMASI SISTEM PENGOLAHAN DAN PENGIRIMAN BIJIH TIMAH PADA KAPAL ISAP PRODUKSI PT TIMAH TBK DI LAUT MATRAS SUNGAILIAT
The Matras Sea area in Sungailiat is one of the primary offshore tin mining sites operated by PT Timah Tbk using Production Suction Dredgers (KIP). Since the operation began in 2008, tin ore concentrates with grades ranging from 50% to 70% Sn have been produced using a sluice box system. However, the tailings (Sisa Hasil Pengolahan/SHP) discharged directly into the sea still contain economically viable tin ore due to the low recovery efficiency of the sluice box. In 2013, studies showed that the SHP contains 5–12% Sn, indicating potential for further recovery. This research applies both technical and economic analysis to optimize the ore processing and transportation system through six simulation scenarios. These simulations compare the existing system (sluice box processing and delivery to PPBT Mentok) with alternatives involving the elimination of the sluice box, additional screening processes, and transportation to a proposed closer processing plant (PPBT Air Kantung). Sampling from KIP Timah 7 revealed tin ore grades of 32.52%, 17.17%, and 11.67% in Compartments A, B, and C respectively, with the average concentrate grade from the sluice box reaching 50.88%. Transportation costs to PPBT Mentok are IDR 159,068 per ton, while the estimated investment for the new PPBT facility in Air Kantung is IDR 17.32 billion. Simulation results show that eliminating the sluice box and directly transporting clean-up concentrate to PPBT Mentok (Simulation 2) yields the most cost-effective solution, with a total cost of IDR 55.26 million. Although establishing a new PPBT in Air Kantung shortens the delivery distance, it requires a significant investment and increases overall costs. Therefore, removing the sluice box and utilizing the existing PPBT Mentok facility is the most economically favorable approach.
