HUBUNGAN POLA NUTRISI DAN KEJADIAN KARIES PADA MAHASISWA PERANTAUAN DI KEDOKTERAN GIGI UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA
Background: Dental caries is a multifactorial disease, one of the causes is diet. Diet is closely related to the fulfillment of nutrients for the body. Inconsistent nutritional intake can cause an individual become more susceptible to caries. Problems regarding the fulfillment of nutrition are often experienced by students, especially migrant students. Dental students certainly have good knowledge about oral health, so they should have high awareness in maintaining eating habits and fulfilling nutrients to prevent caries.Objective: To determine the relationship between nutritional patterns and dental caries among migrant students of Dentistry at Sriwijaya University. Methods: This study was a analytical observational study with cross sectional design. The subject consisted of 60 migrant students of Dentistry at Sriwijaya University. Nutritional patterns were measured using Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and dental caries were measured by clinical examination of the subject’s oral cavity. Data analysis used in this study are Chi-square test. Results: There are 15 migrant students who have a good nutritional pattern included in the very low DMF-T index category, while there is a migrant student who has a poor nutritional pattern included in the very high DMF-T index category.
