Film acts as mass media to represent reality in society. This is in line with the gender inequality that exists in the film series "Gadis Kretek" (2023). This research has a descriptive qualitative nature and data collection was carried out by means of documentation and literature study. Using John Fiske's semiotic coding level, the author analyzes the signs that represent gender injustice in the series through the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. The results of the study describe that there is an issue of gender inequality for women in the domestic and work domains due to the existence of a patriarchal culture. Women's roles are limited because of gender bias and stereotypes that exist in society. Even though the time setting in the series takes place in the 1960s, gender inequality is still found in the current era where the remnants of patriarchal culture often discredit women's abilities in the field of work and limit women to the domestic sphere only.
