Waste is still a problem for the Indonesian government that is difficult to overcome, one of which comes from market activities. Buying and selling activities in market increasing the amount of waste every day due to poor waste management. This study aimed to analyzed the waste management system in Perumnas Sako Market in Palembang City. This study used a qualitative method. 13 informants participated in this study, including 3 key informants and 10 regular informants. Information was obtained by in-depth interviews, observation sheets, photovoices and document review. Validity of the data used the triangulation method. Data analysis was carried out by reducing data, presenting data, drawing conclusions and verification. The research results showed that human resources is sufficient. The costs from daily levies are running well. Shelter cannot accommodate all the waste and the location of the TPS next to the main road causes traffic jams. There are no written SOPs and sanctions regarding waste management policies. There is no waste sorting process. Waste containers are not yet suitable and available in every storel/stall/market alley. Collection is carried out using an indirect individual pattern where officers collect traders' waste. Waste transportation was delayed, more than 24 hours and the transport trucks did not have cover. In conclusion, waste management at the Perumnas Sako Market not in the line with the requirements of the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works of the Republic of Indonesia Number 03 / PRT / M / 2013. This resulted in amount of market generation exceeding the standard set by SNI 19-3983-1995. The market authorities should plan improvements and collaborate with Environmental Department of Palembang City so that the generation of market waste that exceeds can be resolved
