This thesis is entitled “Development of the city of Palembang in 1978-1993 (Historical Overview of the Development of the City of Palembang)”. The formulation of the the problem in this research is how the Palembang city Government developed in 1978-1993 in the field of development, and what were the results of the work of the Palembang City Government in the firld of Development in 1978-1993. The method used in this research uses historical methods. The step taken in this research are heuristics, soure criticism, criticism, external criticims, internal criticism, interpretation and writing (historiography) and using geographic, antropological, sociological, and political approaches. The results of this research show that there are developments in the development sector as well as improvements such as the construction of KIP, Drainage, Roads, Housing, Bridges, and markets projects carred out by the Palembang Municipal goverment. This development and improvement show that there is physical development in the city of Palembang which makes it one of the big cities in Indonesia. Not only that, but this development and improvement also has an impact on the social and economic life of the community which includes, increasing the number of students in Palembang municipality, suppoting the activies of traders and workers in terms of transportation, recuding flooding in the city center, increasing the need for local workers, as well as the expansion of businesses opened by local people.
