Hospital is a place that most people avoid. Children need something to be distracted from the pain and the fear of medical treatment. Children prefer to do fun things. A pleasant, friendly, and welcoming environment cannot cure disease but it can support the improvement of users’ experience, affect life expectancy and aid the recovery process. The purpose of this design is to deliver a child-friendly mother-child hospital design. The number of RSIA in South Sumatra is 13 hospitals in 2019. Just 2 of them are outside the Palembang city. While in the Palembang city itself every RSIA is still a type C RSIA. So that it is planned the design of a type B mother child hospital which is intended for regencies/city with the availability of better/complete facilities. Besides that, mother and child hospitals in Palembang city have not provided/carried the child-friendly concept. So, by the aim of focusing on the character and the needs of children, a child-friendly concept is used in this design. Some of the things used in this child-friendly hospital design are wayfinding, playing areas, and outdoor elements such as daylights, outside sceneries, and parks. In the site design, a garden/play area is placed inside the building, at the same time becoming a void in the middle of the building. The existence of voids and parks in the middle of the building is also intended to place the ‘outside elements’ so that it will give such a positive effect to the buildings’ users. The circulation and the division of zones inside the building is clear, thus easier the way find. The main structure system uses concrete material, rigid frame, and deep foundation, that is the piles. There are several utility systems such as plumbing system, protection system, air conditioning system, and medical gas system for the function of this hospital building.
