EKSPERIMENTAL PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN DEFLEKTOR TERHADAP TURBIN SAVONIUS 3 SUDU PENGGERAK GENERATOR SKALA LABORATORIUM
The utilization of wind energy as a renewable alternative is increasingly important as fossil energy reserves are depleting. This study evaluates the performance of a Savonius-type vertical wind turbine equipped with a deflector at three angles (0°, 30°, 60°) and three wind speeds (11 m/s, 12 m/s, 13 m/s). Experimental tests were conducted in the WT-40 Subsonic wind tunnel; measured parameters included turbine rotational speed, voltage, current, and wind speed. Results showed that the 0° deflector configuration produced the highest power of 34.314 W at 13 m/s, while the 60° angle recorded the lowest power of 16.965 W at the same speed. Tip speed ratio increased linearly with respect to output power, confirming the direct influence of deflector angle on efficiency. Thus, a 0° angle was identified as the most optimal configuration to improve the performance of the Savonius turbine over the tested wind speed range. Further research is recommended to explore the optimal number of blades and field testing to obtain validity of performance under natural conditions. Keywords: vertical wind turbine, Savonius, deflector, turbine efficiency, tip speed ratio, renewable energy.
