ANALISIS IDENTITAS BUDAYA DAERAH SISWA SMP DAN MTS DI KABUPATEN LAHAT SUMATERA SELATAN
This study aims to analyze and compare the level of local cultural identity among students of Junior High Schools (SMP) and Islamic Junior High Schools (MTs) in Lahat Regency, South Sumatra. Cultural identity is a crucial aspect in shaping students’ character, reflecting their understanding, emotional attachment, and behavior toward local culture. The research employed a quantitative approach using a comparative study method. A total of 331 students from three schools (SMP N 5 Lahat, SMP N 1 Lahat Selatan, and MTs N 1 Lahat) were selected using simple random sampling and calculated using Cochran’s formula. Data were collected using the Local Cultural Identity Scale (LCIS), which covers cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in the overall level of cultural identity between SMP and MTs students (p > 0.05). However, a significant difference was found in the affective aspect (p < 0.05), with MTs students demonstrating stronger emotional ties to their cultural identity. Additionally, gender-based analysis revealed significant differences, with female students showing a higher level of cultural identity than male students. These findings highlight the importance of integrating multicultural approaches in educational and counseling services to address students’ diverse cultural backgrounds.
