Human certainly will go through degenerative process (aging) which cause thedeclining in one's physiological function and immune system. The elderly are themost vulnerable and need more attention in this process. According to thestatistics of the elderly population in 2014 by Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), 51% ofthe elderly in South Sumatera have sick complaints, and nearly 66% of them treattheir own selves using medication (traditional and/or modern) and done in theirown home. Lack of knowledge and competence could worsen the condition.Therefore, the elderly need a place with 24 hours health care. Moreover, theelderly in general want to socialize with other people of the same age, to keepthem from old age disease. For that, Rumah Mandiri Lansia is designed to meetthe needs of the elderly to socialize and to move, also to keep them from old agedisease. Other than that, with interesting activities everyday will keep them fromfeeling lonely and increase the quality of their life. Completion of the applieddesign also take notice on the elderly's behavior, such as placing communal spacebetween rooms for socializing, placing seats on the sidewalk, reducing the use ofstairs, and displaying facade to give natural impression and comfort.
