PEMBERIAN AROMATERAPI PEPPERMINT PADA ASUHAN KEPERAWATAN PASIEN CA MAMMAE POST KEMOTERAPI DENGAN MASALAH KEPERAWATAN NAUSEA DI RSUP DR. MOH. HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Carcinoma mammae is the cancer with the highest number of cases in Indonesia. Chemotherapy, as its main therapy, often causes side effects such as nausea. Post-chemotherapy nausea not only interferes with patients' comfort, but also has impacts on quality of life and nutritional status. The use of pharmacological therapy has not been fully effective, so a non-pharmacological approach such as peppermint aromatherapy is needed. Objective: To provide nursing care using peppermint aromatherapy intervention to post-chemotherapy ca mammae patients with nausea nursing problem. Method: This paper was written using a qualitative research method with a case study approach involving 3 post-chemotherapy ca mammae patients with nausea. The nursing process approach included assessment, determination of nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The intervention was done through the peppermint aromatherapy by inhalation for 3 consecutive days with a duration of 10-15 minutes. Results: All three patients had nursing problems in the form of nausea. After peppermint aromatherapy intervention, the post-test results showed that all three patients experienced a decrease in the nausea scale. Although the nausea category during the pre-test and post-test were both in the mild category, there was a decrease in the nausea scale that occurred in all three patients. Conclusion: Peppermint aromatherapy is effective as a complementary therapy in reducing nausea in post-chemotherapy ca mammae patients.
