HUBUNGAN PERSONAL HYGIENE IBU DAN KEBERADAAN Escherichia coli DALAM AIR MINUM RUMAH TANGGA DENGAN KEJADIAN DIARE PADA BALITA DI PUSKESMAS MAKRAYU
Diarrhea is disease that can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites that are generally transmitted through contaminated food or water and through the fecal-oral route. Diarrhea not only causes acute health problems but also contributes to malnutrition that can inhibit growth and development in children underfive years. Diarrhea is consistently included in the top 10 most common diseases every year at the Makrayu Health Center. Based on these conditions, this study aims to analyze the relationship between caregiver personal hygiene and the presence of Escherichia coli in household drinking water with the incidence of diarrhea in in children underfive years. This study uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design and a proportional random sampling technique. The population in this study amounted to 77 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was carried out using statistical software with the chi-square test to see the relationship between variables and multiple logistic regression tests to determine the most dominant factors influencing the incidence of diarrhea. The results of the chi-square test showed that there was a significant relationship between hand washing habits (p-value=0.031), hand drying techniques (p-value=0.021), and the presence of E. coli in household drinking water (p-value=0.001) with the incidence of diarrhea in children underfive years. Furthermore, the results of multiple logistic regression analysis identified the presence of E. coli in drinking water as the most dominant factor influencing the incidence of diarrhea with a PR value = 5.389; and CI = 1.799–16.144. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the presence of E. coli in household drinking water is a major risk factor for the incidence of diarrhea at the Makrayu Health Center. Therefore it is recommended that the public pay more attention to how to obtain, store, and process drinking water before consumption in order to prevent contamination of E. coli bacteria which can increase the risk of diarrhea in in children underfive years.
