This study aims to explore the meaning of self-concept in former inmates in Batu Gajah Baru Village, North Musi Rawas Regency, with a focus on the experience of social reintegration, the meaning of self-concept change, and the motivation to build a positive self-concept. Using a phenomenological approach based on Alfred Schutz's theory, this study involved three former inmate informants through in-depth interviews and participant observations. The results of the study showed that ex-convicts experienced five phases of transformation: emotional turmoil at the beginning of their incarceration, internal transformation while in correctional institutions, struggle to face social stigma, economic challenges, and finally recovery and transformation in society. The process of self-meaning is characterized by a shift in orientation from life without reflection to viewing life as a "second chance" and a change in life goals to become more directed towards family responsibilities. Family support is the main motivator for change, while proving oneself through hard work and positive behavior is a strategy to overcome stigma. The study concluded that positive self-concept plays a crucial role in the social reintegration of ex-convicts, and consistency in demonstrating positive change is key to rebuilding public trust.
