REPRESENTASI PESAN MORAL DALAM FILM THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS (2018) (ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA CHARLES SANDERS PEIRCE)
This research aims to understand how moral messages are represented in the film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018), directed by Coen Brothers. As a mass communication medium, film not only provides entertainment but also conveys moral messages that can represent everyday life. Therefore, the researcher is interested in the moral messages in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs with a duration of 132 minutes. This research employs a descriptive qualitative research method and uses Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory as an analytical tool. The moral messages are divided into six categories : honesty, courage, authentic self-value, independence, responsibility, and critical thinking. The result of the research indicate that there are six moral messages in each segment of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The first moral message, honesty, is found in scene 5 of segment 1. The moral message of courage is found in scene 9 of segment 2. The moral message of authentic self-value is found in scene 19 of segment 3. The moral message of independence is found in scene 50 of segment 4. The moral message of responsibility is found in scene 71 of segment 5. Finally, the moral message of critical thinking is found in scene 75 and scene 77 of segment 6.
