This study is entitled “The Role of the Cultural Office in Providing Legal Protection of Cultural Reserves in Palembang City”. The aim of this study is to explain the regulation regarding the role of the Municipal Cultural Office to the cultural reserve and the implementation of the legal protection by the Department of Culture against the cultural reserves in Palembang City, As for the formula of the problem in this study is: (1) How is the arrangement of the role of the Ministry of Culture to the cultural reserve in the City of Palembang? and (2) How does the implementation of the legal protection by the Department of Culture against the cultural reserves in Palembang City? The methods used in this research are empirical qualitative methods with legislative, sociological and case approaches. The type of legal material used is the primary legal material of the results of interviews and observations, secondary, and tertiary. From this research it is obtained that the Cultural Office of the City of Palembang has the authority and important role in helping the City Government to carry out the protection of the Cultural Reserve in Palembang City. The implementation of preventive protection by the Cultural Office is aligned with the provisions of the legislation that protection can be carried out by means of: rescue; security; zoning; maintenance; and recreation. Repressive protective measures provided are sanctions and fines in accordance with the rules in force.
