PROSES PEMBUATAN KARET GELANG DENGAN PERBEDAAN KLON DAN KOMPOSISI
This study aimed to determine the differences in physical characteristics of rubber bands derived from two natural rubber clones, namely Gondang Tapen (GT1) and IRR-118, as well as the effect of varying antioxidant (ionol) compositions on the elasticity of rubber bands. The ionol compositions used were 40%, 50%, and 60%. Tests conducted included dry rubber content (DRC), tensile strength, elongation at break, 100% modulus, and evaluation before and after the aging process. The study employed a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and referred to national and international standards, namely SNI 06-2047-2002 for a minimum dry rubber content of 60%, and ASTM D412/SNI ISO 37:2010 for mechanical properties, with criteria of 500%– 750% elongation at break, tensile strength ≥10 MPa, and 100% modulus ≥1 MPa. The results showed that the best performance was obtained from the IRR-118 clone with 60% ionol concentration, yielding an elongation at break of 750% before aging and 580% after aging, tensile strength of 11.40 MPa before oven treatment and 10.20 MPa after, and a 100% modulus of 0.70 MPa before oven and 0.89 MPa after. Although the modulus value did not fully meet the minimum standard, this treatment still provided the best overall physical characteristics compared to other treatments. These findings indicate that a combination of superior clone selection and optimal antioxidant composition can enhance the physical quality of rubber bands.
