This research focuses on the motives in cases of illegal motorbike racing carried out by perpetrators on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Ilir Timur 1 District, Palembang City using Alfred Schutz’s phenomenological perspective. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study show that teenagers who take part in illegal motorbike racing activities have a motive “because of motive” which consists of family influence (disharmonious family conditions), social influence (friendship enviroment that is familiar with illegal racing), economic influence (the economic condition of the teenager’s family which is not well off) and the goal motive “in order to motive” which consists of the goal motive to have fun, and the goal motive to find one’s identity. At the same time, teenagers interpret the act of illegal motorbike racing because they are forced to do it and are used to leaving the house (either as a means of earning a living or to have fun unburdening themselves at home).
