Background: Stroke is a disease that can cause brain dysfunction resulting in motor and sensory disorders that cause muscle and balance weakness. Approximately70-80% of stroke patients experience hemiparesis. Rubber ball grip therapy is one of non-pharmacological therapies that can be implemented for stroke patients with physical mobility disorders. However, is has never been implemented for stroke patients in the NHCU ward at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang. Objective: Nursing care intervention for stroke patients with physical mobility disorders was conducted using rubber ball grip therapy. Method: This descriptive study used a case study approach involving three stroke patients with nursing problems of impaired physical mobility. Results: The three patients were given rubber ball grip therapy for 3 consecutive days given twice a day with a duration of 10 minutes. This therapy revealed changes in the form of increased upper extremity increased from 3 to 4. The second and third patients experienced improved muscle strength from 2 to 3. In terms of lower extremity strength, only the first patient showed improvement from 1 to 2 after after receiving range of motion (ROM) exercises, while the second and third patients did not show any increase in lower extremity muscle strength. Discussion: Rubber ball grip exercises with a flexible and smooth texture can stimulate increased neuromuscular chemical activity including the production of acetylcholine by the parasympathetic nerves, thereby triggering contractions in the muscle nerve fibers. Conclusion: The implementation of rubber ball grip therapy is effective for stroke patients with nursing problems of impaired physical mobility to increase upper extremity muscle strength.
