PENERAPAN TERAPI RENDAM KAKI AIR HANGAT TERHADAP PENURUNAN TEKANAN DARAH PADA IBU HAMIL TRIMESTER III DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS SAKO PALEMBANG
Background: Blood pressure in pregnant women gradually increases in the third trimester. Likewise, if there is an increase in blood pressure until it reaches ≥140/90 mmHg, hypertension in pregnancy occurs, which can lead to preeclampsia (Dewi et al., 2024). Hypertension was the leading cause of maternal death in 2023, with 412 cases, followed by obstetric hemorrhage and other obstetric complications (Kemenkes RI, 2023). Management of hypertension in pregnancy can be done non- pharmacologically, which is relatively safer for both the mother and the fetus, such as administering warm foot bath therapy. Warm foot soak therapy is performed by soaking the feet in warm water at a temperature of 38°-40°C for 10-15 minutes. Purpose: To provide nursing care to clients with hypertension issues through the administration of warm foot soak therapy as an additional intervention to lower blood pressure. Method: The author used a qualitative method by conducting a case study on 3 managed clients. Discussion: Warm foot soak therapy proved to reduce blood pressure in the three managed clients. The basic principle of soaking feet in warm water is based on the ability of water to absorb and store heat energy. This heat transfer process occurs through the pores of the foot skin, triggering vasodilation in blood vessels which facilitates blood flow and contributes to the decrease of both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. In addition to lowering blood pressure, warm foot soak therapy also provides benefits such as reducing pain and relaxing the body. Conclusion: Warm water foot soaking intervention is highly recommended to lower blood pressure in pregnant women in the third trimester with hypertension.
