ANALISIS DAMPAK BANTUAN TIONGKOK DALAM PROYEK KERETA API ADDIS ABABA-DJIBOUTI TERHADAP PEREKONOMIAN MASYARAKAT LOKAL DI ETHIOPIA
Ethiopia is a developing country with most of its growth in the agricultural sector, where over 95% of trade passes through the Port of Djibouti. Ethiopia and Djibouti have been connected for a long time since 1917, but this rail line has suffered degradation, necessitating a new and modern railway line. The modernization project of the Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway is a form of cooperation between Ethiopia and China aimed at accelerating Ethiopia's economic growth. This research aims to analyze the impact of Chinese aid in the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway Project on the local economy of Ethiopia. The study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method based on secondary data from international agency reports, academic journals, and official publications from the Ethiopian and Chinese governments. The concept used in this research is Foreign Aid, indicating that there are long-term and short-term impacts. From a long-term perspective, this project contributes to technology transfer, human efficiency, civilization, and social change. In the short term, this project involves the status quo that includes diplomatic interests between Ethiopia and China, but there are political challenges within it, namely economic dependence on China and management of foreign debt. Therefore, researchers may suggest that the government needs to evaluate the loans provided by China to prevent economic exploitation, natural resource depletion, human resource depletion, and political dependency.
