This report outlines the redesign process of the Lematang Traditional Market in Lahat, aimed at improving the physical quality and functionality of the market, which has significantly deteriorated. Lematang Market serves as a central hub of economic activity and social interaction in Lahat City; however, its current condition is concerning, with poorly maintained structures and a lack of comfort for visitors. The primary objective of the redesign is to create a more efficient layout, enhance cleanliness, and improve the building's aesthetics to meet the standards of a Type II market. The design methodology employed includes functional, spatial, and contextual analysis, as well as the synthesis of design concepts. The functional analysis evaluates the various activities taking place within the market, while the spatial analysis examines the relationships between spaces and existing zoning. An industrial architectural approach was chosen to produce a design that is both simple and visually appealing, using materials that are efficient and durable. This report also identifies existing issues such as inefficient spatial programming, limited parking availability, and poor market hygiene. The redesign aims to address these problems by creating better circulation and providing a more comfortable environment for both visitors and vendors.The final outcome of this project is a design that not only fulfills the functional needs of a market but also creates an engaging and comfortable public space. Consequently, the revitalized traditional market is expected to regain its appeal and enhance the quality of life for the surrounding community. This redesign represents a significant step in the revitalization of traditional markets, contributing to local economic development and cultural preservation.
