A business that has the potential to gain large profits is a cattle farming business in 2023 the cattle population in Gelumbang District has a population of 4,698 or equivalent to (1.3%) this figure is a high number compared to other districts in Muara Enim Regency. The analysis used in this study is the Location Quotient (LQ) analysis. LQ analysis can be used to identify superior sectors or commodities in a region compared to a large area. The purpose of this study was to study the potential for cattle development based on the analysis of location quotient, characteristics of farmers and maintenance systems in Gelumbang District. The hypothesis is that there is an increase in the potential for cattle development based on the analysis of location quotient, characteristics of farmers and maintenance systems in Gelumbang District. This study was conducted in December 2024-January 2025 in Gelumbang District, Muara Enim Regency. The method used in this study is a survey method using a questionnaire given to farmers. Based on the characteristics of farmers, age, education level and length of farming in 3 villages, Putak Village, Segayam Village and Talang Taling Village in one village 15 respondents, a total of 45 respondents as data collection instruments. The data collected includes primary and secondary data. The data obtained is then calculated descriptively using excel. Calculation of cattle population using the LQ method in Gelumbang District by equating small ruminant livestock. 1 cow is equated with 7 goats. LQ> 1; This means that the commodity is the basis or a source of growth and can be developed, LQ 1 are Gelumbang Sub-district (1.387), Rambang Sub-district (1.211), Empat Petulai Dangku Sub-district (1.198), Lawang Kidul Sub-district (1.197) Muara Enim Sub-district (1.173), Rambang Niru Sub-district (1.077) and Belimbing Sub-district (1, 003). There are 12 sub-districts that have an LQ value 1 mean that the area is basic and can be used as a leading sector. Keywords: cattle, development potential, location quotient, sub-district Gelumban
