KAJIAN AWAL KEBERADAAN JUVENILES HORSESHOE CRAB DI PERAIRAN PESISIR BANYUASIN, SUMATERA SELATAN BERDASARKAN PERSEPSI NELAYAN PERIKANAN
The Horseshoe Crab is one of the protected marine animals because of its role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem and its economic value. However, the existence of the Juveniles Horseshoe Crab (JHC) in the coastal waters of Banyuasin, South Sumatera, is still not widely researched. This study aims to analyze and map the location of JHCs and the number found based on the perception of fishermen, identify the season of its appearance, and analyze the factors that affect its existence. The research method used is a quantitative descriptive approach with structured interviews with 131 fishermen of Sondong, Trawl, Trammel Net, Drift Gill Net, and Bottom Gill Net. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression methods to determine the significant factors influencing the presence of JHCs, as well as location mapping using ArcGIS 10.8 software. The results of the interview study showed that JHC was found in 14 locations, with a dominance in Sembilang River (48.36%) and Tanjung Carat (32.39%). The largest number found per trip was 1-10 (30%) with the dominant carapace width size at 0.8-8.5 cm (41%). The most JHC seasons appear in the Southeast wind season and the Transition II season peak in August (22.73%) and September (21.33%). The analysis shows that the factors that have a significant influence on the existence of JHC are The area where JHC is found (Coastal), The situation of seeing it (Only through the sea, and When entangled in nets), JHC entangled in nets (Once entangled), and Handling if entangled in nets (Returned to the sea). This research provides the basis for conservation and habitat management efforts of JHC in Banyuasin.
