THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HYGIENE AND SANITATION WITH THE PRESENCE OF ESCHERICHIA COLI BACTERIA AT WATER REFILL STATION IN NORTH INDRALAYA DISTRICT
Refill drinking water is preferred by the public due to its affordability and accessibility. However, poor hygiene sanitation practice might affect the presence of Escherichia Coli in Drinking Water from Water Refill Station, which can have an impact on public health. This study aims to analyze the relationship between sanitary and hygiene with the presence of Escherichia Coli in Water Refill Stations in North Indralaya District using a cross-sectional study design. The sample calculation replaced the Slovin formula with a total sampling technique with a total of 39 Water Refill Stations studied. The data were collected through observation using the 2021 IKL instrument for water refill stations. Water Refill station test was conducted using the MPN method. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi square test. The result showed that 17.9% of drinking water samples contained Escherichia Coli. The bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant association between Water refill Station equipment and the presence of Escherichia Coli (p = 0.000 and PR = 17,400). However, that were not have a significant association were location and building, raw water source, and hygienic water supply. DAMIU equipment in Indralaya Utara sub-district is still categorized as poor. So, improved equipment maintenance and awareness of DAMIU managers in replacing equipment that is not fit for use is necessary.
