Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a decrease in kidney function that causes accumulation of fluid, electrolytes, and metabolic waste, so it requires renal replacement therapy such as hemodialysis which has impacts on psychological problems, and one of which is anxiety. Anxiety arises due to concerns about complications during or after dialysis, changes in lifestyle, and the threat of death. One of the nursing interventions that can be applied is relaxation therapy using lavender aromatherapy. Objective: To describe the implementation of nursing care for CKD patients and the provision of lavender aromatherapy to overcome anxiety. Method: Case study with 3 CKD patients in the inpatient ward of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang. Results: The three patients complained that they felt confused, anxious, and worried about their conditions, and they looked restless and tense. The nursing diagnoses indicated acute pain, ineffective airway clearance, anxiety, activity intolerance, sleep pattern disorders, risk of infection, and risk of nutritional deficiency. Discussion: The main interventions given were pain management, energy management, effective coughing exercises, sleep support, infection prevention, nutritional management, and relaxation therapy in the form of lavender aromatherapy given for 15-30 minutes every day for 3 days. The main ingredients of lavender (linalyl acetate and linalool) provide an anxyolytic effect (anti-anxiety) and act as an intermediary medium for the release of enzymes that reduce muscle contractions, provide a sense of relaxation, and reduce anxiety. Conclusion: Lavender aromatherapy is effective in reducing anxiety experienced by CKD patients. Therefore, it is expected that in the future more nurses consider using lavender aromatherapy as a non-pharmacological intervention to overcome patient anxiety problems.
