GAMBARAN INDEKS DMF-T PADA ANAK DENGAN AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER DI YAYASAN BINA AUTIS MANDIRI PALEMBANG
Background: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological disorder that appears in the first three years of life and characterized by impaired development of social skills, limited use of interactive speech, and sensory-motor defects. Children with ASD often experience oral health problems such as caries caused by poor oral hygiene due to children's disabilities or lack of family or caregiver’s assistance on their oral hygiene maintenance. An index that can be used to assess caries status in ASD children is DMF-T. Objective: To determine the DMF-T in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri Palembang. Methods: This study was a descriptive observational study with cross sectional design. The population consisted of 53 children aged 12-18 years old with the total sample of 31 children using total sampling technique. Research data were obtained from clinical examinations using Decay, Missing, Filled Teeth (DMF-T) index. Results: The overview of DMF-T index in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri Palembang using DMF-T showed moderate category with a score of 2,99. The percentage of Decayed component was 92.47%, Missing was 5.38%, and Filled was 2.15%. Based on gender classification, the highest DMF-T percentage was found in males with moderate category (35,5%), while based on the average age of children, the highest percentage was found in 14 and 18 years old with moderate category (9,7%). Conclusion: The DMF-T index overview shows that the caries status of these children was relatively good.
