RESPON VARIETAS SELADA (LACTUCA SATIVA L.) DENGAN BERBAGAI LEVEL NAUNGAN ARTIFISIAL
Increasing lettuce production can be done by intensification land used and implementing agroforestry. Anyway of others problems of land used of under annual crop areas is the low intensity of sunlight due to the presence of annual plant canopy that shades sunlight. This research aimed to determine the effect of various shade levels on the growth and yield of salada plants of Grand Rapids and Red Rapid varieties. The research was carried out using artificial shade on the lowland experimental land of Permata Baru Village, South Sumatra from July 2023 to September 2023. Using the Split Plot Design method with the main plot, namely 4 shade levels: No shade (N_0%), 55% shade (N_55%), 70% shade (N_70%) and 95% shade (N_95%), and lettuce varieties as subplots, namely: Grand Rapids (GR) and Red Rapid (RR). The results showed that: 1) grand rapid and red rapid lettuce varieties had the highest growth and yield on shadeless treatment; 2) Grand Rapids lettuce is tolerant and grows well in shade areas up to 55%, but higher shade percentage rates result in lower plant height, number of leaves, and SPAD values. and biomass yield; 3) shade reduces red pigment in lettuce of the Red Rapid variety. Lettuce tolerance with shown good growth and yield in shade up to 55% indicates the potential of lettuce-based agroforestry systems and forestry crops in the future.
