SERANGAN BERINGIN (FICUS) PENCEKIK PADA SAWIT: KASUS DI KAWASAN UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA, INDRALAYA
Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is an essential commodity in Indonesia, but the presence of hemiepiphytic species from the genus Ficus can hinder its growth and productivity through a strangling mechanism. This study aims to identify Ficus species attacking oil palm, determine the level of infestation, and measure trunk diameter. The research was conducted along roadside areas within Universitas Sriwijaya, Indralaya, using a descriptive survey method. Results showed that three Ficus species were found on oil palms: Ficus benjamina (415 individuals), Ficus retusa (2 individuals), and Ficus sundaica (1 individual). The infestation rate reached 24%, with a mortality rate of 2%, categorizing the attack as mild, while the infestation intensity was 6%, indicating that Ficus could impact oil palms and its population may increase if not controlled. Most Ficus individuals had small trunk diameters (64.11%) ranging from 1 to 35 cm were approximately 35 years old, signifying the long-term presence of Ficus on oil palm trees. Keywords: Oil palm, Ficus, Hemiepiphyte, Plant health, Productivity.
