PENGARUH PROSES PACK CARBURIZING VARIASI HOLDING TIME TERHADAP KEKERASAN BAJA KARBON RENDAH ST 37
Pack Carburizing is a treatment process where when testing the hardness of the steel surface using carbon content as a hardness enhancer element. In this study, researchers used ST 37 steel which has a carbon content of 0.5% so that it has soft properties and weak strength compared to medium carbon steel and high carbon steel in general. Pack carburizing is a heat treatment process which is used to harden the surface of steel using carbon content as a hardness enhancing element. In this study, the carbon used was charcoal, wood, acacia and coconut shell charcoal. Specimens used low carbon steel ST 37. This study aims to see the effect of variations in the time held used. The hold times used are 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 90 minutes. After the carburizing process is carried out, the specimen is cooled to room temperature, then a vickers hardness test process is carried out. The results of vickers hardness testing get a hardness value on pure specimens, which is 190.265 kgf / mm². The highest hardness value in coconut shell charcoal specimens held for 60 minutes with a value of 221.609 kgf / mm², then the highest hardness value in acacia wood charcoal specimens held for 90 minutes with a value of 292.820 kgf / mm². It can be concluded that the variation in holding time along with the type of carbon coconut shell charcoal and acacia wood charcoal used affects the results of hardness in the specimen.
