SENYAWA ANTIOKSIDAN DARI DAUN DREWAK (Microcos paniculata L.)
Degenerative diseases are increasingly recognized for their association with oxidative stress and free radical damage. Metabolite compounds such as antioxidants can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, which are underlying factors in chronic disease. Research on antioxidant compounds from the Malvaceae family is of interest because of the variety of plant types that have potential health benefits. The roots, stems and leaves of Drewak are widely used as traditional medicines for consumption, this is the background for research on the activity of antioxidant compounds in the leaves of Drewak to continue previous research. This research was conducted at Sriwijaya University from September to November 2024, sampling was carried out in the area around the Sriwijaya University dormitory and research on the activity of antioxidant compounds was carried out in the Biotechnology and Genetics laboratory, Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Several antioxidant activity tests were carried out using thin layer chromatography and the compound class was determined. The results of research conducted show that Drewak (Microcos paniculata) leaves contain antioxidant compounds and can be used to ward off free radicals that want to enter the body.
