Excessive UV exposure can damage the skin, making sunscreen essential for protection. One potential ingredient that can be utilized is eco-enzyme, as it contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and phenolics, which exhibit UV protection activity. This study used eco-enzyme derived from the fermentation of pineapple peels, banana peels, and potato peels for 90 days, resulting in a pH of 3.717±0.055 and total flavonoid and phenolic contents of 104.974 mgQE/L and 198.403 mgGAE/L, respectively. SPF testing of the eco-enzyme at concentrations ranging from 10% to 50% showed an increase in SPF values from 17.246±0.027 to 42.428±0.191. The eco-enzyme was then formulated into a sunscreen lotion with varying concentrations of eco-enzyme and stearic acid. Formula optimization using Design Expert® 13 with a factorial design resulted in an optimal formula containing 40% eco-enzyme and 11.066% stearic acid, with a viscosity of 5,571.880 cP, pH of 5.207, adhesion time of 16.877 seconds, spreadability of 54.833 mm, wash-off resistance of 15.533 mL, and an SPF of 15.086. Stability testing of the optimal formula indicated that the lotion remained physically stable, although a significant decrease in pH was observed based on a paired sample t-test. However, the pH after the cycling test remained within the physiological pH range of the skin. The formulated eco-enzyme-based sunscreen lotion demonstrated its potential as an effective sunscreen, providing SPF protection in the ultra-protection category.
