DRAMATURGI DOSEN KOTA PALEMBANG DALAM REPRESENTASI DIRI PADA INSTAGRAM
This study analyzes the concept of dramaturgy in the usage of Instagram by lecturers in the universities in Palembang. Using qualitative approach, this study explores how lecturers use their main account and their second account to separate professional identity and private identity. The main account (front stage) is used to show professional image through structured posts that are relevant to academic role, for the example, education contents, career, and formal interaction. On the contrary, the second account (back stage) becomes a room to express their more personal self, such as daily activities, hobbies, private matters, which are not suitable for general audience. Further more, this study identified the appearance of middle stage, which is the process of curation and preparation before the content is published, in this step, the lecturers carefully consider the type of content that will be shared, this act as a form of a bridge between their personal and private life. The result of this study shows that the main motivation for the lecturers to make a second account is to keep balance in their professional and private life, also to protect their image in public space, the privacy on the second account is protected tightly by limiting the followers to the people close to them. This study affirms that the usage of Instagram by lecturers not only shows identity management strategy but also becomes a place to fill personal needs and professional needs at the same time.
