KOMUNITAS PLANKTON DI SUNGAI KENTEN, KECAMATAN TALANG KELAPA, KABUPATEN BANYUASIN
Rivers are aquatic ecosystems with different physical, chemical and biological characteristics from upstream to downstream, affecting the presence of aquatic organisms in these ecosystems. Kenten River is utilized by local residents for tourism, agriculture, domestic, and industrial activities, which has an impact on the plankton community. This study aims to determine the plankton community in Kenten River, Talang Kelapa Sub-district, Banyuasin District. The research was conducted in September-November 2023 using purposive sampling method. Samples were taken at 4 stations differentiated based on their environmental hue. Plankton successfully obtained were identified to the genera level. The physico-chemical parameters measured were temperature, brightness, current speed, pH, DO, BOD, phosphate, nitrate, and TSS. The results showed the plankton community consisted of 18 genera, 9 classes, 14 orders, and 17 families. The calculation of the diversity index is categorized as moderate with a value of 1.87-2.18; the dominance index is categorized as low with a value of 0.17-0.22; the evenness index is categorized as even with a value of 0.66-0.77; and the similarity index is categorized as high with a value of 87.50%-100%. The range of physico-chemical parameters showed temperature 28.6-31.4°C; current velocity 0.12-0.17 m/s; brightness 16.5-20.5 cm; pH 6; DO 3.62-4.13 mg/l; BOD 0.5-3.7 mg/l; phosphate 0.08-0.27 mg/l; nitrate 1.8-2.3 mg/l; and TSS 39.9-54.0 mg/l. Based on the study results, Kenten River supports the life of plankton but is under considerable stress due to human activities in the vicinity.
