Peatlands are a specific ecosystem that is always flooded with water and has economic, hydrological, environmental, cultural and biodiversity functions. Peat soil is vulnerable to change (fragile), relatively infertile, and irreversibly dry. Peatlands have a thickness of 50 cm or more and contain organic C of at least 12% dry weight. One of the villages that has peatlands in South Sumatra is Perigi village, but the peatlands in Perigi village can be classified as degraded with reduced hydrological, production and ecological functions. One of the decomposers and providers of nutrients in peatlands is soil insects. Regarding the role of soil insects in peatlands, it is necessary to conduct research on the types of soil insects found in the peatland area of Perigi Village, South Sumatra. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method and data collection uses roaming sampling techniques and Pitfall traps. A total of 12 insect species were identified, including natural predators such as Coccinelidae and herbivorous insects such as Chrysomelidae and Acrididae. Based on the results of surveys and research that have been carried out and an understanding of soil insects and their role in the ecosystem, efforts to preserve the ecosystem in peatland area of Perigi Village are needed to maintain insect diversity. Conservation of natural habitats, includin g unique vegetation such as purun lakes must be a priority. Key words: Peatlands, Insect inventory, South Sumatra
