REPRESENTASI BUDAYA PATRIARKI PADA FILM DISNEY LIVE-ACTION MULAN KARYA NIKI CARO (ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA ROLAND BARTHES)
ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the representation of patriarchal culture in the Disney Live-Action film Mulan. The purpose of this research is to identify the denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings of patriarchal culture in the Disney Live-Action film Mulan. The researcher applied a qualitative approach to produce descriptive findings using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The data source for this research was obtained through documentation by analyzing scenes (dialogue texts and visuals) from the film. The findings of this study reveal that the representation of patriarchal culture in the film Mulan (2020) is depicted through several aspects: Gender Stereotypes, where women are expected to obey and conform to their roles based on patriarchal norms emphasizing femininity; Subordination, where women are expected to bring honor to their families through arranged marriages controlled by the family and are placed in positions inferior to men in leadership roles; Marginalization, where women are systematically excluded from access to power considered appropriate only for men; and Objectification, portraying women as valued solely for their physical attributes.
