Coal mining plays an important role in Indonesia's economy; however, companies face challenges such as rising fuel costs and the need for heavy equipment efficiency. Optimizing production costs has become crucial to remain competitive. This study aims to analyze and compare the basic transportation costs of coal between the self-managed method and contractor services at Pit 2 Banko Barat PT Bukit Asam, Tbk., Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra. The research methods include collecting primary and secondary data, direct observation, and analyzing the ownership and operational costs of transport equipment. The equipment used in the self-managed method is the Volvo FMX 420 dump truck, while the contractor uses the Mercedes Benz 48x45, both with a capacity of 30 tons. The results show that the transportation cost of coal using the self-managed method reaches IDR 21,385.38 per ton, with a cost per ton-kilometer of IDR 3,860.17 for a distance of 5.54 km. Meanwhile, the transportation cost through the contractor is recorded at IDR 26,705.73 per ton, with a cost per ton-kilometer of IDR 4,652.57 for a distance of 5.74 km. The cost difference between the two methods reaches IDR 5,320.35 per ton. These findings indicate that the self-managed method is more economical and profitable, suggesting that the company should expand the application of this method in similar areas to improve cost efficiency and productivity
