FITOREMEDIASI AIR ASAM TAMBANG MENGGUNAKAN GANGGANG HIJAU (HYDRILLA VERTICILLATA) DI PT BUKIT ASAM TBK
This research aims to investigates the potential of Hydrilla verticillata in the phytoremediation of acid mine drainage, with the aim of increasing pH, reducing total suspended solids (TSS), and decreasing concentrations of heavy metals, specifically iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). The experiment was conducted under static conditions for 12 days, employing variations in plant biomass (15, 25, and 35 g) and contact time (4, 8, and 12 days). Measurements of pH, TSS, and Fe and Mn concentrations were taken before and after the phytoremediation process. The concentrations of Fe and Mn were analyzed using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results demonstrate that Hydrilla verticillata effectively increased pH toward neutral levels, reduced TSS concentrations, and significantly decreased Fe and Mn levels in the acid mine drainage. The highest removal efficiency for Fe was 79.80%, and for Mn was 83.21%, both achieved using 35 g of biomass on day 12. Statistical analysis using the Kruskal–Wallis test revealed that plant biomass had a significant effect on pH increase, TSS reduction, and Fe and Mn removal. However, contact time had no significant effect on pH, TSS, or Fe reduction, though it significantly influenced Mn reduction.
