PENGARUH PIGMEN KAROTENOID SEBAGAI SENSITIZER ALAMI DALAM MENINGKATKAN EFISIENSI KONVERSI ENERGI PADA SEL SURYA
With the depletion of fossil energy reserves such as coal and petroleum, the transition to renewable energy sources has become an urgent necessity. One of the renewable energy sources with significant global potential is solar energy. This study aims to develop a prototype of an organic solar cell using pigments extracted from orange cosmos flowers as the dye, with variations in the solvent used during the carotenoid pigment extraction process to determine its effect on the solar cell efficiency. The organic solar cell prototype was fabricated by layering components including FTO glass, semiconductor, dye, electrolyte, and carbon. The prototype was tested under two conditions: without load and with load. Measurement results showed that the prototype using water as the solvent for carotenoid pigment extraction achieved the highest efficiency of 0.09%, with an open-circuit voltage of 92 mV and a short-circuit current of 0.0024 mA. Data analysis indicates that water is the most effective solvent for extracting carotenoid pigments at high concentrations, thereby increasing the amount of pigment extracted and consequently enhancing the solar cell efficiency due to improved sunlight absorption.
