This research examines the social meaning of the Nerime Mangian tradition Merge Rambang in Prabumulih City. Nerime Mangian tradition is a bridal reception tradition carried out by the groom’s family to introduce the bride to the family. Nerime Mangian tradition is one of the series in the wedding procession which is held after the marriage ceremony takes place. This research aims to explore the social meanings that exist in Nerime Mangian tradition as well as describing the form of interpretation of social meaning by society. The research method used is descriptive qualitative using an ethnographic strategy. Research data was obtained through a process of observation, in-depth interviews with 14 informants, and documentation. This research is supported by the symbolic interactionist theory approach from George Herbert Mead with the concept of action. The research results indicate that the implementation of tradition Nerime Mangian carried out by society merge Rambang is based on social meaning as strengthening the social structure of society. The Nerime Mangian tradition is not only interpreted as cultural identity, but also as forming family relationships, building social solidarity, and strengthening social ties. Despite tradition Nerime Mangian people still do it Merge Rambang, but not all stages in this tradition are carried out. This is because there has been a shift in the meaning that this activity is only a requirement of the community's wedding tradition Merge Rambang.
