PENGARUH BERBAGAI METODE EKSTRAKSI BUAH KAKAO (Theobroma cacao L.) SECARA KIMIA TERHADAP VIABILITAS BENIH
Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is an annual plant that can start bearing fruit at the age of 4 years, and if managed properly, its production period can last more than 25 years. This research aims to determine the most effective and efficient extraction method in order to break seed dormancy and accelerate the germination of cocoa seeds. The method used in this research was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with 6 treatments. Each treatment was repeated 4 times to obtain 24 experimental units, each experimental unit contained 2 trays consisting of 10 seeds. So there are a total of 48 trays. The treatment consists of A = Cocoa seeds are washed using 2% KNO3 solution, B = Cocoa seeds are washed using 1% KNO3 solution, C = Cocoa seeds are washed using 2% HCl solution, D = Cocoa seeds are washed using 1% HCl solution, E = Cocoa seeds are washed using 2% H2SO4 solution, and F = Cocoa seeds are washed using 1% H2SO4 solution. In this study, the parameters observed consisted of germination capacity, maximum growth potential, vigor index, growth speed, plant height, root length, fresh and dry shoot weight, and root fresh and dry weight. The results of this research show that treatment of extracted cocoa seeds using a H2SO4 solution with a concentration of 1% gives the best results for seed viability.
