UJI KINERJA MESIN PENGURAI LIMBAH KELAPA MUDA (Cocos nucifera L.) DENGAN TENAGA MOTOR LISTRIK
Young coconut is one of the most consumed fruits by Indonesian people, young coconuts that have been consumed usually leave the waste just like that. Young coconut waste can produce coir fiber and coir powder which can be fully utilized for productive activities but the utilization was still small. This study aimed to test a tool to decompose young coconut waste into coconut fiber, and coconut powder. This research was conducted from January 2024 to April 2024. The design of the tool was carried out at the Agricultural Machinery and Workshop Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University Palembang. The performance measurement of the decomposing machine was carried out in the parking lot of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University Palembang. The method used in this research was descriptive method with data presentation in the form of tables. The resulted obtained are observation data obtained include 1) Initial weight entered (kg) and decomposition resulted (kg), 2) Decomposition time (minutes), 3) Electric power (W), and rotary speed (rpm). While the parameters used in this study are 1) Decomposition capacity, 2) Efficiency of the decomposing machine, and power requirements. The data and parameters apply to 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch pulleys. The treatment used consisted of a lot of starting material of 5 kg and was repeated three times for each pulley used. The resulted obtained from the observation data can then be seen that the highest decomposition capacity are found on a 6-inch pulley with an average of 35.3 kg/hour while the lowest decomposition capacity was found on a 10-inch diameter pulley with an average of 24.4 kg/hour and also the highest decomposition efficiency are found on a 6-inch diameter pulley with an average efficiency of 70% while the lowest decomposition efficiency was found on a 10-inch pulley with an average efficiency of 63%. The highest power requirement was found on the 6-inch pulley because the electric power (W) was greater than the other pulleys. This showed that the faster the rotational speed of the engine in the decomposition process, the higher the power requirements and the decomposition resulted are the less the engine operating time required. Keywords: Decomposer machine, Young coconut, Performance test, cocopeat, cocofiber.
