EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK DAUN TEH HIJAU (Camellia sinensis L.) PAGAR ALAM SEBAGAI BAHAN IRIGASI TERHADAP KEBERSIHAN SMEAR LAYER
Root canal treatment procedures will produce a smear layer. The irrigation stage is needed to clean the root canal from debris, microorganisms, and smear layer, especially in the apical third which is difficult to clean due to anatomical variations. One of the natural alternative materials that can remove smear layer is Pagar Alam green tea leaf extracts (Camellia sinensis L.). Objective: To determine the concentration of Pagar Alam green tea leaf extract that effectively removes smear layer. Methods: A pseudo laboratory experimental study using 24 mandibular premolar tooth samples and divided into 4 treatment groups. Samples were prepared with crown down technique using protaper for hand use and irrigated based on the group, namely: Group A with 25% Pagar Alam green tea leaf extract, group B with 50% Pagar Alam green tea leaf extract, group C with 2,5% NaOCl and 17% EDTA, group D with aquadest. The samples were then cut in longitudinal direction and evaluated using measuring microscope with 1000x magnification, then measured with a visual criteria scale. Data were analyzed using Kappa test, non-parametric test with Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann Whitney test. Results: There was no significant difference between group B with 50% Pagar Alam green tea leaf extract and group C with 2,5% NaOCl and 17% EDTA. Conclusion: A 50% Pagar Alam green tea leaf extract is effective in removing the smear layer in the apical third of the root canal.
